Brenda Chin, age 66, passed away peacefully in January 2022 due to complications arising from Cancer. She was born in Trinidad & Tobago to Agostini and Hilda Chin. Immigrating to Toronto, Canada with family in the mid seventies, where they made a loving and lasting home.
She thoroughly enjoyed her new life in Canada, working her first job, making new friends and exploring the excitement of a big city with her sisters. For a time being she even enjoyed the natural beauty winter brings, but that ended the following week.
Brenda’s world changed forever in 1977 when she gave birth to her beautiful baby boy, Barry, at Etobicoke General Hospital. It was from that point onward her life served a new purpose: to pour every ounce of strength, love and understanding a mother could possibly give to ensure Barry had a happy fulfilled life. She instilled a strong moral compass and the proper values that she held very dear.
As a single mom, Barry and her were inseparable to her last day, as it was always just the two of them against the world. Brenda worked extremely hard to ensure they always had financial stability, nourishing food, and a safe and happy home. Barry was her pride and joy. Always putting his needs ahead of hers, they were the centre of each other’s universe.
When she wasn’t a doting parent, she truly enjoyed travelling, food (especially Chinese and Caribbean food), cooking, nature walks, and shopping for nice clothing. Her favorite trips were Caribbean cruises with family where the sun was always blazing, and the food always tasty.
Later in life she found extreme joy and fulfilment through religion. Jehovah’s Witnesses provided her with a sense of security and comfort in a tumultuous world. Her spiritual brothers and sisters loved her dearly, and always provided assistance and guidance when needed. Her devotion and dedication to Jehovah was deep and unwavering, which gave her the emotional and mental strength to fight her ailments until her body could no longer.
Her life became an example of her favorite Bible verse, Romans 14:8 – “If we live, we live for Jehovah; and if we die, we die for Jehovah. So, whether we live or die, we belong to Jehovah.”
Overall, Brenda really enjoyed life and the people she chose to share time with. She loved to smile and talk over a tasty meal. Her memorable giggle and inquisitive nature always made for enjoyable company. To say that her family and friends will miss her greatly is an understatement. Please celebrate her life and memory, as that would make her happy with a giggle on the side.
“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” – Abraham Lincoln.
Brenda is survived by her loving son Barry, younger sister June, older sister Helen, younger brother Virgil, and older brother Franklyn. As well as nine caring nieces and nephews.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society at cancer.ca/en/. However, cards are welcomed.
