Bradford’s Obituary
Bruce, Bradford Gary – Age 70 of Halifax, formerly of Bloomington, Annapolis Co., passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax Infirmary. Brad was born in Middleton, April 16, 1952, to the late Vernun and Veulah (Ward) Bruce. His life started on a very small family farm built by his father in the community of Bloomington. Brad attended Middleton High School. His first job was working at Martyn’s Mill in Nictaux. Brad also worked at Chev Olds in Middleton. Brad had a great memory and was a fantastic storyteller. He loved country, gospel, and bluegrass music. He played guitar and drums. His passion was music, and his first band was called the Bruce 4 No More at the age of 13. He went on tour with the Jewel Tones across Canada when he was only 14 years old! Brad then went on to form an award-winning trio called the Valley Folk with his sister, Linda, and Gary England. He then joined a band called Bonded Stock and played with them for several years, along with the Juno nominated, RCA recording band the Big Buffalo. He also played for bands, Saddle Tramp, and Bonded Stock. Shortly after that, Brad moved to the city where he worked for Killiam properties at several locations around the city and the law office of the Dartmouth Courts. He became superintendent of the Almon Place Senior Residence. Between trips to perform in Nashville, Bradford worked at the Summit Camp in Honesdale, Pennsylvania as a driver for emotionally challenged children. He enjoyed repairing and restoring old vehicles. Brad was a member of the Halifax Police Association. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010 and some of his memorabilia hangs in the Hank Snow Museum in Liverpool. Brad received an accommodation from Northwood for maintaining the senior’s residence during the pandemic with no COVID breakouts. He will be greatly missed and loved by all who knew him. Brad is survived by his son, Bradford Bruce Jr., Dartmouth; partner, Cheryl Goudey, Halifax; siblings, Linda Bruce, Dartmouth, Richard Bruce, Nictaux, Darlene (Neil Taylor), Little Liscombe; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free: 1-855-825-3448 where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2022. Rev. Leon Langille officiating. Interment will follow in Nictaux Cemetery. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Lung Association of Nova Scotia.
