Obituary
After a courageous battle with Cancer, it is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Walton Hooper which occurred on Saturday, May 7th, 2022, at the Loch Lomond Village. Bob, the son of the late John William Hooper and Martha Lorena Malloch, was born on Malloch’s Point, Campobello Island on March 5, 1937. Bob attended Elementary School at Campobello and High School at St. Stephen and Meductic, NB. Bob worked at NBTel/ Bell Aliant for forty years in the Network, Engineering and Personnel Departments, spending ten of those years as Administrator for the Telephone Pioneers and their Community Service activities. He was also on loan to Bell Canada for two years working on the Mid Canada Defence Line maintaining surveillance equipment for the Air Force at Cranberry Portage, Manitoba where he met his wife Joan. Bob enjoyed hunting at the 3d Woodlot, fishing, curling, camping, walking, genealogy, and swatting golf balls. But he thoroughly enjoyed co-ordinating NBTel’s 25 Year Watch and 40 Year Clock parties for employees with 25 and 40 years of service. After retirement in 1996, Bob and Joan enjoyed many years of travel. Travelling on bus tours and cruises to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Russia, Norway, Sweden, Australia, and New Zealand and cruising the Inner Passage from Vancouver to Ketchikan, Juno and Skagway in Alaska with his sons and grandsons in 2019.
Bob is survived by his three sons Kevin (Shelley) of Meaford, ON; Gregory (Karen) of Font Hill, ON; Richard (Tracey) of Oromocto, N.B; grand children Alysha Stroud (Andrew), Belina, Nathan, Scott, Christian; great grandchildren Liam, Caleb, Daniel and Megan Stroud; plus nieces and nephews Cindy, Tammy, Millie, Emillie, Frank and John. Along with his parents, Bob was pre-deceased by his sister Mildred Kathleen Porter.
Bob’s family would like to take this opportunity to thank the great Oncology staff at the Saint John Regional Hospital for their care and friendship through multiple chemo treatments.
Arrangements are under the direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Friday, May 13th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Memorial Service will take place from the Fundy Funeral Home chapel on Saturday, May 14th at 10 a.m. followed by an interment at Ocean View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
