Obituary of Bill Gillin
William C. “Bill” Gillin, age 75, passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, on November 14, 2022. Born January 11, 1947, he is the son of the late William and Caroline (nee Hopkins) Gillin.
Growing up, Bill lived on Westville Road and went to school there. He enrolled at the Jr. Technical Institute (old Aberdeen Hospital) and graduated in 1964. He was employed as a pattern maker with Maritime Steel for 38 years. He owned and operated Bill’s Pool Room in Westville. Before he retired, he worked with his son and daughter on several projects, including Cafe Italia.
Over the years, he coached power skating, coached and played baseball, hockey and broom ball. He also played pool in the Pictou County Pool League for 20 years. He was the proud owner of a 64 Chev Bel-Air. He was also a friend of Bill W for 28 years.
Bill moved to Fox Brook Road, Westville after getting married. This was home for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia (Oldford) and his children Jane Muir, Dartmouth, Jeff (Lori) Gillin, Stellarton; sister Florence Cameron, Pictou and aunt Ida Hutt, Truro. Also surviving are his grandchildren Adam, Liam, Ryan (Brianna) Muir and Zachary (Cassidy), Chris and Ella Gillin. He was a proud great grandfather to London and Lydia Gillin, who will remember him as Gramp.
Besides his parents, Bill is predeceased by his brother Carmon and mother and father-in-law, Albert and Nellie Oldford.
I want you to be at peace with knowing that you did a great job here. You fulfilled your purpose; you made a difference and made the world a better place. You left a lasting impression on each one of us. You are so deeply loved, by so many. We are blessed to have had you for all the special moments, memories to look back on, stories to share, and jokes to recount over and over (Yes, we heard that one before). All of which will be forever cherished in memory of you.

Bill is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville where visitations will be on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m . His funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Eagles Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gail Murdock officiating. Masks are suggested and would be appreciated.
