In Celebration of
Betty Mahoney
November 9, 1933 –
December 26, 2022
On December 26, 2022, in Mississauga. She will be missed terribly by her children Linda (Steve), Sue (predeceased by Perry), and her grandson Aaron. She also leaves behind her stepchildren from her late husband, Jack Mahoney: Bill, Carol, and Jack, along with their children.
Betty had a very full life. Born into a family of 13 children in 1933. Life was tough and she grew up quite quickly. She started working full-time at 14 years of age. She married at age 16 and then had her two daughters, later divorced, and was left to raise them on her own.
She worked for 31 years at Domtar Packaging, starting out in the copying room, and later moving her way up into sales and then on to a manager. She decided after a short time that she preferred being at the order desk and returned to that job.
Betty also made many good friends at Domtar and in particular, the late Helena Simpson and the late Vera Prosser. We can see Betty now having a great time with the girls drinking their favourite gin and tonic.
She retired when her grandson was born as she wanted to be there to help in taking care of him since his parents both worked. She was a wonderful grandmother to Aaron and they were very close. She loved to bake for us and all her near neighbours. She also enjoyed feeding the wildlife in her yard. Betty was an avid supporter of those who help those suffering hardship. We will miss you Mom/Nana.
