Betty Barnes (nee Farrow)
It’s with great sadness we announce Betty’s passing on Monday, May 23, 2022. Betty was born in Starkville January 29, 1932. Her parents were Victor and Leona Farrow. She has seven sisters and four brothers, one of which was her twin Billy. All family members are predeceased. Betty was known for her sense of humour and sharp wit. She enjoyed music and having fun. At 16, she drove a Cletrac Caterpillar tractor to clear land for tree planting. She and a small group of workers planted thousands of trees which today is the Ganaraska Forest. It was at this job she met Lloyd Barnes, who she later married. They had five children and lived mostly in Hampton, Ontario. They had a plumbing business plus Betty owned an apartment building in Hampton from 1974 until 2015. Betty also did seasonal work for 30 years. Tying tobacco, picking apples and then working at Jose Mink Ranch. In 1987 they retired and moved to RR1 Kirkfield, near Coboconk. Betty loved working at her home, also enjoyed bingo, where special ladies kept the Lions Centre in Kirkfield going every Tuesday night. Betty is survived by her daughters Donna McKay (Wally), Dale Brown (Brian), Deanna Barrett and one son Doug (Eve), ten grandchildren and 17 great grand kids. She was predeceased by son Danny in 1964, husband Lloyd in 1997 and granddaughter Jenny in 2020. She will be missed by her loving family and friends and special nieces. Cremation has taken place through Lakeland Funeral & Cremation Centre. Private burial will be held at Hampton Cemetery at a later date.
