Bessie Morgan
August 15th, 1930 – December 22nd, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of Bessie Morgan (Currie) announces her peaceful passing at Finlandia Village on December 22, 2022, at the age of 92.
She was predeceased by her father, James Currie, and mother, Dorcas Elizabeth (nee Strickland) Currie of Rose Blanche, Newfoundland, siblings Isabelle, Ethel, Emma, Minnie, Miria, and Leslie and her husband, Clarence Morgan, and sons, Robert, and Timothy. Left to mourn are her children Lynda (Michel), Tammy (Michael), Dean (Mary Lynn), and cherished granddaughter Amanda Lische.
Bessie was born and raised on Cains Island, Newfoundland. She moved to Corner Brook at age 15 to work as a nurse’s aide. From there, she moved to northern Quebec and worked in a lumber camp. Bessie met her husband while working at the hospital in Gravenhurst. Clarence and Bessie started their family in Bracebridge and eventually called Sudbury home.
Bessie was a kind soul. She was often a quiet observer of things who would then unexpectedly hit you with a zinger. She is known for her one-liners. Phrases like “You didn’t kill us, but you brought us right to the edge” and “You’ve got to get the victory over that” come to mind. She had an unwavering love for the family both in Newfoundland and her immediate family. Her children were her life, and she was never happier than when she was in their presence. Her granddaughter, “Manda” meant the world to her.
She made a yearly pilgrimage to Newfoundland, where the salty air and rugged rocks welcomed her home. She also loved her home in Sudbury and her camp at Fairbanks. She was a regular at the pool and gym. She loved her Church of the Ascension and was part of the alter guild.
She was an avid shopper, always finding the best deals. Weekends spent “yard sale-ing” and going to the mall is how many will remember her.
She will be deeply missed and will be thought of as a steady presence in our lives.
The family would like to thank the staff at Finlandia for the support and great care of our mother.
A celebration of life is planned for the spring. Donations to your preferred charity in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
