Obituary of Beryl Wright
HALIFAX – On September 30, 2022, our beautiful, mom, nan, mother-in-law and aunt, Beryl Wright, passed away. She was 91 and her mind was as “sharp as a tack”. Beryl was prepared and was ready for her next journey.
She is survived by her daughters, Sheryl (Garry) Simons, Regina, Sask.; Wenda Wright, Halifax; grandson, Keegan Matheson, Toronto, Ont.; granddaughter, Kelti Matheson, Scotsburn; son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson, Scotsburn; sister-in-law, Joan (Keith) Johnstone, Simcoe, Ont.; many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, A/Comm. Douglas J. Wright (Ret’d); parents, John Alex and Lucy (Aucoin) MacQueen; older siblings, Mary (John) Rohaly, Ewan MacQueen, Betty (Louis) Chiasson, Murdoch (Faye) MacQueen, Alice (Nick) Stevens and Evelyn (Charlie) Page.
Born on July 13, 1931, in New Waterford, Cape Breton, she met her husband, Doug as he was starting his career in the RCMP, marrying in 1954. They moved many times throughout Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Saskatchewan, and Ontario, finally settling down in Bedford. Upon Doug’s passing she moved to Parkland Clayton Park, Cameron Hall, Halifax, where she lived for almost four years. She made many friends there and everyone always said to her family, “everyone loves Beryl”. Her best friend of 45 years, Jackie Christen, also lived in Cameron Hall, which made her time there more special. Beryl enjoyed reading, playing Bridge, doing her puzzles everyday, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and various sports, her favourite being baseball. Beryl was an avid Blue Jays fan. She was an excellent cook and baker. She was very proud of her grandson, Keegan, and granddaughter, Kelti, to whom she was a wonderful “nan”. “Mom”, from your daughters, Sheryl and Wenda, “you were the best mom. We won the lottery!! Your lifelong kindness, love, care, warmth, guidance, laughter, and strength will be cherished always. We will miss you very much, but we will be okay, you raised us well. Love you mom. Fly with your guardian angel and give dad our love.”
Beryl’s family wish to thank, Dr. Hannah Lamothe, the nursing staff of unit 8.1 Halifax Infirmary, QEII and to her caregivers, Francis, and Betty at Cameron Hall.
Her family will celebrate her life privately and lay her to rest beside her husband in Bedford Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Beryl’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or Diabetes Canada.
