Bertus Bud Veldhuis 1939 2022

Bertus “Bud” Dale Veldhuis, resident of Hythe, AB, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022, at the Beaverlodge Hospital at the age of 83 years.
Bud was born July 21, 1939, in Beaverlodge, AB. to Bert and Edith Veldhuis, the fourth one in the family.
Although he was not good academically, he had amazing, almost innate, skills in guiding big game hunters in the Yukon in summer, and uncanny accuracy in falling trees in the bush in winter. Other times he worked on the Borden Estate farm north of Valhalla AB. In later years, he worked for Foster’s in Beaverlodge Feed and Seed. Upon retirement, he made many chests to sell at Farmers’ Markets. Bud enjoyed his greenhouse and garden, often entering his prize produce in the Hythe Fair each year. He loved camping, as well as traveling on the Alaska Highway in his motorhome.
Bud lived at the Hythe Pioneer Home for several years and more recently at Pearson Place in Hythe.
Bud will be sadly missed by his wife, Kathy; children: Bertus
(Marylynn) Horseman, Freda Horseman; grandchildren: Leon, April, Donica, Angel, Bruce, Tristan, Aiden, Paul, and many great-grandchildren down to one-year-old great-great-grandchild Brady; stepchildren: Rick, Larry, Brian, Faye, Garret, plus all of Kathy’s sons and daughters; nine siblings; eleven stepsons and daughters; nine siblings.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edith and Bert Veldhuis; sister Vera Hogg; brother Daniel Veldhuis; and stepdaughter Brenda Webb.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Hythe Legion (9818 100 Ave, Hythe, AB T0H 2C0)
