BERTA REHBERG (nee Vogelsang)
September 17, 1928 – January 8, 2022
Our beloved Mom, Oma and Great-Oma, left to join the love of her life Friedrich, who patiently awaited for his sweetheart at “Heaven’s Gate.” Our hearts are comforted knowing they are together again.
Born September 17, 1928 in Freidenthal, Ukraine, a young girl with little education, she taught herself to cook and sew, while helping her brother Valentine (predeceased) on their small farm. With Mom’s perseverance, strength and courage, she grew into a wonderful, kind, caring woman.
She then met and married Dad on October 20, 1946 in Germany. In 1955, with their three young children, they came to Canada and added two more children to their home on Goulding Street. Mom and Dad were inseparable for 65 years, until Dad’s passing on January 27, 2012.
Mom loved to cook, bake, sew, knit, crochet and garden. She was such a talented lady with a heart bigger than herself. Always willing to share her baking and hand made items with everyone.
Mom’s greatest joy were her seven grandchildren, who she spoiled with more love than anyone knew was possible. Our Mom now became “OMA” to everyone. Great-grandchildren started to arrive with four to date, and one more on the way. She loved the visits, videos and pictures shown to her…that always made her day.
Mom suffered a stroke in September of 2015, but she never gave up. Her fierce determination gave her the strength and courage to keep some independence while in her wheelchair. She loved her bingo, hymn sing and Sunday services at the care home.
Mom is survived by her children Marta (George-deceased), Ernie, Mona (Keith), Anita (Kevin) and Susan. Her grandchildren, Spencer (Jenn), Joel (Kelly), Jordan (Sheena), Brent (Gina), Abbey (Matt), Ashton (Jessica), Curtis (Rachel) and great-grandchildren, Cayla, Blake, Maci and Theo. Also, her three nephews and their families, on her side of the family, Karl (Donna), Waldemar (Chris) and Rudy.
She is also being remembered with much love by her sister-in-law, Ruth Rehberg, brother-in-law, Friedrich Klatt, along with many nieces and nephews on the Rehberg side of our large family, together with relatives still in Germany. Mom was predeceased by many sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nephews and cousins.
Mom, you are so loved and already missed, more than words can say. We will hold you in our hearts forever, never to be forgotten.
