Obituary
Bernard Lewis Tobin
Florence
It is with overwhelming and extreme sadness that we, the family of Bernard Lewis Tobin announce his passing on Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Northside Community Guest Home, surrounded by his loving family.
Bernie was born May 5, 1934, the youngest son of James Pius and Sarah Belle Tobin. After the untimely death of his mother, he was raised by Nicholas and Annie (Laffin) Tobin. Bernie was a coal miner and worked at several wash plants and coalmines in the local area.
He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing at home, and occasionally at his brothers. He also recorded a record that played on the radio.
He loved walking, chatting with the neighbors, spending time with his family and watching his favourite TV programs. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, and him and Lecky always watched the game on Saturday, and took turns yelling at the TV.
Bernie is survived by his children Lecky (Marilyn), Karen (Dennis Anderson), Cathy (Kenny), and Bernie (Melanie), and will be sadly missed by them. He also leaves behind special grandsons Troy and Justin Anderson, great-grandchildren Brayden, Brett and Kelsey, who Mom and Dad thought was their little princess. He would go get her treats whenever she called. Also left to mourn are his great-grandchildren Olivia, D. J. and Carson, Andrea, Alara and Everly, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife Shirley (Imrie) Tobin, his brothers William, Emerson, Francis, Bill, Nicky and Lecky Mansfield, sister Katherine, and his step-sisters Mary, Martina, Agnes, Marguerite and Alice.
A very special thank you to the Northside Guest Home, where our Dad lived for the past two years, and considered his home. Thank you for the extreme care and love he received there, especially Theresa Terrace for all the love and kindness shown to him while he was there. The nursing was outstanding.
Thank you also to Dr. Doug Kohlsmith, who went above and beyond for our Dad for so many years. We are eternally grateful.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Bernie’s life will take place Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11 am in Holy Family Church, Sydney Mines. Words of comfort may be forwarded to his family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com
