Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother Bernice DeMara, on February 2, 2022 after a struggle with Alzheimers. Born Bernice Audrey Heslop in Viking, Alberta, she earned her teaching degree at University of Alberta and began her career in Inuvik, N.W.T.
She met her first husband, Sergio Pasin in Toby Creek, BC. They married and had 3 boys. Sadly, she was widowed when Sergio died in a mining accident. Bernice moved her young family to West Kelowna, where she built a house on her own and taught primary school at Lakeview Heights Elementary. She met many lifelong friends in this welcoming community.
She married Bob DeMara and they became a family in their Lakeview home. They had a wonderful life together: traveling the world, boating, and spending time at their Lake property in West Kelowna. Bernice loved playing bridge, doing crosswords, hiking and sewing. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and she was known for her amazing pies. She loved spending time with her grandchildren: playing cards, board games and going for walks together. We spent many a night together watching TV, flipping between curling, tennis, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Bun was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Marco(Nathalie), Christopher(Keri), Scott(Daneen) and six grandchildren, Luke, Isabelle, Ella, Dawson, Calvin and Brynn. The Pasin Family would like to thank the staff of Sun Pointe Baptist Housing who provided such compassionate care of our mother.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date
