Obituary of Beatrice Hatch
With great sadness we announce the passing of Beatrice Virginia Hatch, age 93, on January 27th, 2022, at Valley View Villa, Riverton.Mom was blessed to have the love of her family surrounding her, both in person and from afar, as she left us.
Beatrice was born on December 25th, 1928, in Thorold, Ontario, the daughter of George and Rita Mann. They moved to Greenhill, Pictou County, and this community would remain her home for the majority of her life. It was here that she raised her five children with great strength, courage, and dedication.
She was a natural in the kitchen, and for a number of years worked at the Green Thumb in Greenhill, baking bread. In 1962 she obtained a Certificate of Home Nursing, and provided care to numerous friends and neighbors, continuing to help others even as she resided at Haven Brook Manor and Valley View Villa. She was a member of the Salem Presbyterian Church, and sang in the choir since she was a teenager. In later years she enjoyed being a member of the Joyful Noise choir.
She loved to skate, and also to spend time at the exhibitions. Whether it was watching the miniature horses, or the powerful Draft horse competitions, she loved it all.
In 1978, Beatrice travelled to Oklahoma to represent Nova Scotia when she successfully lost more than 90 pound (and kept it off for the rest of her life!) through the T.O.P.S. program. It was a trip of a lifetime for her. Donning a tiara for the photos, she was truly a “Queen Bea”. Bea was always ready for an adventure. Whether it was a drive in the country with a friend, an Old Time dance in Lorne, or a river rafting adventure (she went twice when she was in her 80s!), she celebrated and created fun wherever she went.
Beatrice is survived by her daughters Evelyn (Jim), Alice (Marc), Connie; and her sons Clifford (Ardith), Billy (Sharon), numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sisters Muriel and Betty, and brothers Clifford and Murray; and former husband Everett Hatch.
Our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Haven Brook Manor, Valley View Villa, Dr Elliott, and caregiver Angie MacKenzie for the professional and loving care provided over the years and in the past few weeks. The comfort that each of you has provided to Beatrice and to our family is immeasurable, and will never be forgotten. You will forever be in our hearts.
Donations can be made to Salem Presbyterian Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
Her family will receive visitors on Monday from 7-9 pm at Eagles Funeral Home. Due to Covid Regulations pre registration is required to attend. Should you wish to attend visiting, please call 902-396-4144.
A private funeral service (invitation only) will be held at Salem Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mary Ann Grant officiating. Interment will be in Durham Cemetery.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Beatrice
