Barrie Carruthers
1941-2022
The family of George Barrie Carruthers (80) is sad to
announce his sudden passing on August 30th 2022. Barrie was born in
1941 in New Glasgow and spent much of his life in Pictou Landing. He
had a 30+ year career at Trenton Works as an electrician. He was a
long-time member of the Trenton Lions Club. Barrie had a big heart and
would help anyone in need. He loved animals, reading, puzzles, the
Toronto Blue Jays, watching westerns and game shows such as Family
Feud or Lingo and going for drives. He loved to tinker and fix things,
was very inquisitive and curious and loved to sit on his swing outside
and feed and watch the birds. He didn’t listen to much music in recent
years but the music he loved most was Shania Twain. Some say when he
laughed his belly jiggled like Santa and he would light up the room
with his booming voice. Barrie was open minded and a great listener.
We will miss many things about him but especially his
stories.
He was a son of the late John Wright Carruthers and Katherine
Mae Ferguson. He was predeceased by his older brother, Jack. He is
survived by his daughter, Cyndi Carruthers; his son, Mike Carruthers;
his granddaughter, Josie Carruthers (Chris Ross); grandson, Jack
Watson; his sister-in-law, Vera Carruthers, nephews, Kirby, Donnie,
Todd (Crystal) and nieces Cathy (John) Dalziel and Terry (Steve)
Higgins; brother, Ross and niece, Wendy Carruthers. Cremation has
taken place and the Celebration of Life will be held from 1-3pm on
Saturday, September 3rd at the Bethel Church Hall, 5756 Pictou Landing
Rd, Pictou Landing. Donations in Barrie’s memory may be made to the
Pictou County SPCA. Arrangements are under the direction of R.H.
Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Barrie Carruthers 19412022..
