Barbara Sue Compton – was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, May 29, 2022. She was a life-long member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and resident of the Midway community. She was a proud beautician and entrepreneur for 50 years. Friends and family gathered weekly at her home, as it also served as her place of business, Midway Beauty Shop. They received friendship, advice, the latest news, and of course, also got their “hair done.” Born July 24, 1939, into an agrarian lifestyle, she enjoyed cultivating her gardens and home. A steel magnolia in the truest sense, she loved to cook, conserve, create, and care for her family. When she could, she’d pack a picnic and we’d be off to the Smoky Mountains.
Preceded in death by parents, R. M. and Effie Hale; brothers, R. E. (Bud) and Tommy Kenneth Hale; sister, Sally Navetta; and nephew, Kenney Hale.
Survived by her loving and loyal husband of 60 years, Will Ed (Bill) Compton, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Deanene and Tom Catani; granddaughters, Karly Light, Ciarra (Bryan) Meeker, Cate (Eric) Robertson; grandsons, Kellen (Callie) Catani and Matthew (Stephanie) Catani; great-grandchildren, Silas Meeker, Ethan and Everett Robertson, Sofia and Naomi Catani, and Luca Catani. Also survived by her sisters, Betty Cox, Janis (Eddie) Watson, and Sharon (Ron) Mayes; sisters-in-law, Velma (Charles) Wright, Lila (Alan) Morgan, Vivian (Bill) Watts, Faye Hale, and Alyene Hale; and many nieces and nephews.
A service and reception will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 11, 2022. A graveside prayer service will immediately follow.
