Barbara Pownall Sunday April 17th 2022

On April 17, 2022 Barbara Gail passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with Cancer. The magnet of her family and friends she always brought people together for love laughs and a good bevy. She was someone everyone counted on, she was always willing to help or do what it takes to get the job done.
Barbara was predeceased by her birth mother Isabella Pownall brother in law Reginald Lewis, Brother David Pownall and parents Stanley and Lillian Pownall. She will be lovingly missed by her spouse Robert Walchuk, sister Janet Pownall, brother Kent Pownall, sister-in-law Lori Pownall, brother in laws Gary Walchuk and Derek Walchuk and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces/nephews. Aunty Barb loved asking her great nieces and nephews “who loves you?” And they would respond with a shout “Aunty Barb”! Barbara loved her great nieces and nephews spending time with them and having them out to Lee River.
Barbara worked for the Canadian Wheat Board until she retired, where she made many life long friends. After retirement she loved to be outside so why not start a lawn cutting business! When she wasn’t working or helping someone out she enjoyed spending time at Lee River where she enjoyed, snowmobiling, quadding, boating fishing and partying! She also enjoyed spending time at her childhood family owned cabin with family and friends in Sandy Hook.
A special thank you goes out to the staff at Selkirk Reginal Hospital in the palliative care unit for their hard work and support.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

  1. I taught Barb at Elmwood High and over the years, she kept in touch with me occasionally – she even left a oft outside my cabin – a white ceramic cat! She was a very special student and I also remember her sticking up for others and not allow bullying around her.
