Barbara Eleanor Barb Starratt MacDonald Hood 1927 2022

Barbara Eleanor “Barb” (Starratt,
MacDonald) Hood – 94, Bass River, formerly of Three Mile Plains,
passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, July 5,
2022, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Bass
River, she was the youngest daughter of the late James and Jennie
(MacLaughlin) Starratt.
Barb graduated from Normal College in Truro, and later
received her BA from Acadia University as a widowed working
mother of three. She taught at various schools around Nova Scotia
including Debert, Sheet Harbour and many years at Three Mile Plains.
She was a member of the Windsor, Riverside and St. Andrew’s
United Churches. She was active in the UCW, Senior Choir, and directed
Junior Choir for many years. She volunteered for UNICEF, Seniors Lunch
Bunch, the Marigold Theatre and received the Diamond Jubilee Award for
volunteering. She was a member of the High Tide Twirlers, Senior Games
and Happy Harmonies. She loved to travel and her happy place was at
her cottage in Little Bass River where she gathered with her family
for the summer.
Barb is survived by her sons, Brian MacDonald (Linda), Bass
River; Andrew MacDonald (Doug Hiltz), Dartmouth; stepdaughter,
Elizabeth Pulsifer (Mark), Antigonish; daughter-in-law, Paulette
Rooney, Bass River; grandchildren, Beth MacDonald (Cal), Leah
MacDonald White (Matthew), Johnathan MacDonald (Becky), Duncan
Pulsifer (Candace), Jillian Pulsifer, (Mark); great grandchildren,
Max, Reuben, Sophie, Lucy, Jackson, Gracie, Addison, Thomas, Nathan;
brother-in-law, Percy Hood; several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her first
husband, John MacDonald (1962); second husband, James Hood (2007);
son, J. Robert MacDonald (2021); sisters, Evelyn MacLellan, Joyce
Starratt, Clara (Roy) Galway.
Thank you to Parkland Truro, Fergus Hall staff and the
doctors, nurses and staff at Colchester East Hants Health
Centre.
Funeral service will be held 2:30 pm., Sunday, July 17, 2022,
at Riverside United Church, 5577 Highway 2, Bass River, Reverend
Shannon MacLean officiating. (For those unable to come into the
church, yuo can tune into the funeral servcie from the church yard on
95.3 FM) Interment in the church cemetery. Reception will follow. In
lieu of flowers, donations in Barb’s memory to West
Colchester Community Health Centre, Bass River, the United Church or
charity of choice are welcomed.
