Barbara’s Obituary
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother and wife, Barbara Dous at the UofA Hospital, after a short battle with lung disease. She was 63.
Barb Dous was born March 6, 1959 to Joanie and Cecil Budd in Fairview, AB. She grew up in the Eureka River/Hines Creek area. Joanie and Cecil’s home was always a place that the family would gather at, and although Barb didn’t have any siblings growing up with her, she was always surrounded by the love and companionship of her many cousins and extended family.
Barbs first job was working at the Traveller’s Hotel in Peace River, then as a hippie tree planter (trust us, we’ve seen some of her old clothes). This is when she met the love of her life, Brad, who was her boss at the time. She always joked that she thought he was a jerk (using more colorful language, of course) but there was something about him, and on one faithful night at a local dance, Brad asked Barb if he could drive her home.
She worked for many years at Canada Post, then the Whispering Pines Ski Hill when it was in its early days. Which Brandon and Jody loved, since they got to spend full weekends at the ski hill. She also worked for many years at the UFA Bulk station with Doug Allen, where she would often be seen pumping gas in minus thirty-degree weather in her tank top. In 2001, Barb and Brad bought the Worsley General Store, where she worked until her passing.
Barb had many hobbies and passions, including gardening and growing fresh veggies. She was talented at painting and drawing. Her most favourite passion was spending time with her seven grandbabies.
Barbara was predeceased by her mother Joanie Budd in 2012; her brother Colin in 2019; and, her father-in-law Bill, in 2011.
She is survived by her loving husband Brad of 43 years, her children Brandon (Pheonix), and Jody (Kevin), and her adopted to us daughter Kim (Nick) Sizer, and her grandchildren, Emma, Callie, Kooper, Leni, Easton, Shayla and Chayce; her father, Cecil Budd; her sister Noella; as well as many cousins and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, March 21, 2022, at the Worsley Central School at 2pm; luncheon to follow.
