Avis’ Obituary
RIVERTON – Avis Joyce Belle Mullen, 84, of the Valley View Villa, Riverton, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2022, in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow.
Born on December 24, 1937 in Musquodoboit, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Michael and Lillian Pearl (Watson) Brown. On June 3,1962, Avis was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and led a life of devotion to the God she loved. She faithfully studied her Bible and as a result was able to encourage others by sharing the truths she learned. She loved people, recognizing the importance of each unique life.
Avis was known for her hospitality, while still living in her own home, guests could be assured of a warm welcome and hearty meal. Some of her favorite pass times were reading, listening to and singing country music, spending time with her friends while picking blueberries and mayflowers or just planting in her own flower garden. Avis liked wearing jewelry, especially bracelets, and often enjoyed having her nails painted in a coordinating color. She was known as a wonderful baker and had many requests for her homemade quiche and black forest cake. Despite being a diabetic, she loved to have her strawberry shortcake and pumpkin pie with whipped cream stating, “I’ll cure that with a shot of insulin later.” Her quick wit, contagious smile and loving heart will not be forgotten. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished friend. Avis leaves a rich legacy entrenched in her deep and enduring faith in Jehovah God.
Surviving are her daughters, Sherry (Kenneth) Hatherly, Hopewell; Jacki (Chris) Cooper, New Glasgow; Linda Smith, Fort McMurray; grandchildren, Brennon (Tamara) Mullen MacDonald, Christan Cooper, Mitchell Smith (Mikaela Benjamin) and Bronson Smith (Kaylee MacDonald); great grandchildren, Darnell ( Emma Styche), Andi and Nathyn MacDonald, and Harrison Smith; sisters, Thelma Crooks, Audrey Kearney, Sharon (Spencer) DeWolfe, Maxine (Bruce) Tibert; brothers, Cyril (Sharon) Brown and Terrance Brown; many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved.
