It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family of Audrey Lily Harton announce her passing on October 5, 2022 at the age of 85 years.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Ken; son Kevin(Nora); son-in-law Bryn; grandsons Daniel, Thomas, Sean and Jason, as well as numerous family members and friends.
Audrey was predeceased by her parents William and May, her siblings Murray, Bob, Jack and Eunice and her precious daughter Carrie.
Audrey was born September 14, 1937 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, the middle child of five. In 1948 the family moved to Peachland, BC. It was here she discovered her love for the water and the joy of swimming. Though life would have her settle elsewhere, the Central Okanagan held a special place in her heart. After graduating from George Pringle High School, Audrey entered the nursing program at RIH in Kamloops and graduated in May of 1958. During her time in the nursing program Audrey made many great friends with whom she stayed in touch and she enjoyed many “nurse lunches and dinners” over the years.
Thanks to mutual friends and a blind date she met her partner for life, Kamloops boy Ken Harton. After a short engagement they were married in Peachland on November 29, 1958 and then made Kamloops home. Once Kevin and Carrie were born she gladly became a stay at home mom. Days were busy ensuring everyone was well looked after, swim lessons, figure skating lessons and competitions as well the building of not one but two houses. Later when the children began elementary school she returned to the work force part time primarily as a medical receptionist. Shortly after Ken retired in 1994, Audrey retired as well.
Audrey enjoyed many outdoor activities with family and friends. Fishing, camping, swimming in the summer and skiing in the winter. She also loved gardening and travelling to and exploring new places. Her and Ken were able to take many trips together. Panama, Venezuela, Belize, Ireland, Costa Rica to name a few.
Audrey meant the world to her grandsons who will remember her as being, in their words, loving, selfless, caring and affectionate. Whether sewing Halloween costumes, baking special birthday cakes, attending school concerts, soccer, baseball and rugby games, karate competitions or musical recitals she was always there for them. She enjoyed and cherished every moment spent with “the boys “.
Audrey lived her life with style and grace, was independent, hard working, loving, accepting and always forgiving. She will be dearly missed by all who were lucky to have her in their life.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and care aides in ER, ICU, on the 8th floor of the Gaglardi tower and at the Hospice House for the loving care they gave Audrey.
As per Audrey’s wishes there will be no service or celebration of life. A private interment at the Peachland Cemetery will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers and to honour Audrey, memorial donations may be made to The RIH Foundation or The Marjorie Snowden Willoughby Memorial Hospice House.
