Audrey Keating Cormier 2022

Obituary
Audrey (Keating) Cormier
1939 – 2022
Audrey’s children wish to share the news of her passing on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at the age of 83. We are truly saddened by this huge loss of our beautiful mother, however are comforted to know that she is now truly at rest.
Born in 1939 in the former town of Chatham she was the daughter of the late Joe and Molly Keating and the wife of our Dad, the late Gerald Cormier.
Sweet memories of Mom will be forever cherished by her children, Terri, Son-in Law Hans Oomes, Cheryl, Carolyn, Son-in-Law Fred Walls, Brent, Joni (Jamie Craig), Jill, Gerry, and Lisa (Mike MacKenzie), and Marc (Kayla Surette).
“Nanny C” will also be missed by her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Remy Cormier, Sydney and Ty Walls, Troy Craig, and Carter, Sephora, Colton and Aubrey.
Grieving with us are Audrey’s siblings; sisters, Lillian Barry (Jack), Joan Arsenault (late Derrill), Joyce McGrath (Tom), Marnie Duffey (Bob), Mary, and Bernadette-“Dee Dee”, and her brother Bernard Keating (late Patsy), sister-in-law Barbara Keating, Della Daley (Frank), Brother-in-Law Donnie Cormier (Carolyn), all of her special nieces and nephews and other extended family.
She is now reunited with brothers Billy and John Keating. She is also predeceased by Dad’s parents Freda and Marcel Cormier, and brothers and sisters-in-law; Donnes Keating, Alberta Gray (Norm), Bob Cormier (Carol) and Francis Drake.
After graduation from St. Michael’s Academy, Mom attended Teachers College in Fredericton, and taught at St. Andrew’s School, during which time she started her family and took the title of “MOM”.
Audrey was an intricate part of the Miramichi community and will be remembered for her devotion to her Church and involvement in food services. From “Lunch-Lady” at Chatham Junior High School to co-owner and manager/employee of Chukwag’n Take-Out Restaurants, she fed many. She was often sought out for her sandwiches and baked goods. Audrey spent most of her time in the kitchen and nobody left her house hungry.
Her door was always open to friends and strangers. She welcomed all with her huge smile and a desire to get to know more about them! She often said with a chuckle that she never knew who was going to enter next.
She was proud of her Irish heritage, a charter member of Canada’s Irish Festival which became the foundation of the family gatherings to this day. She was a member of the Irish Canadian Cultural Association and was instrumental in the establishment of the Celtic Cross memorial and the surrounding Shamrock hedge on Middle Island.
A most kind, loving, gentle and humble woman.
Our family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Extra Mural, Dr. Gerard Losier and staff at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, and especially acknowledge the nurses on 2-West and ICU for their special care, and Mom’s partner in prayer, Aunt Mary.
Visitation will occur at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi on Sunday, November 20, 2022, from 2-5 PM and Monday, November 21, 2022, from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM.
