Audrey “Betty” Simonds
1926-2022
The death of Audrey “Betty” Marie Simonds of Centreville
occurred on Monday, February 14, 2022 at her home surrounded by her
family. Betty was born August 26, 1926 in East Centreville and was the
daughter of the late William and Bessie (Margison) Boyer. She was also
predeceased by her husband, Delbert; 1 son, Carl; 6 siblings, Gerald
Boyer (Leola), Frank Boyer (Ruth), Sam Boyer (Margaret), Claire Boyer
(Jessie), Marjorie Tracey (Clint) and Gladys Lawrence (Saunders).
Betty is survived by her 5 children, Debra Douglass, James Simonds
(Debbie), Ross Simonds (Janice), Janice Branswell (Kevin) and Peter
Simonds (Tonya); 7 grandchildren, James Douglass (Emily), Amy Russell
(David), John Branswell, Frannie Branswell, Emma Simonds, Dara Wilkie
(Ryan), Mairi Simonds- Forster (Josh); 2 great grandchildren, Scarlett
and Julianna Douglass as well as several nieces, nephews and extended
family.
Betty was a teacher, having graduated from New Brunswick Normal School
in Fredericton in 1943. She worked in the public school system, a
private kindergarten, and within the public kindergarten system. Her
work took her to rural one-room classrooms, a high school, and to the
two preschool environments in former schools. Her love for children
and teaching extended into her personal life as a Sunday School
teacher and girls’ program leader. She was also a member of the
local Women’s Institute and strong supporter of their work. An
avid crafter, Betty crocheted until a few months before her passing.
Many are in possession of the results of her beautiful handiwork.
Betty was a farmer’s wife and actively involved in the Royalton
community. She, with her beloved Delbert, raised her family there in
the rolling hills of rural New Brunswick. In 1983 Betty and Delbert
gave up farming and moved to town. Regardless of location, a lasting
memory will be of Betty in the rocking chair, humming a tune or
whistling, brown bread or cookies baking in the oven, and an afghan in
the works.
The family expresses thanks to Horizon Extramural staff, personal care
workers, and Dr. Michael Perley for their work and oversight of
Betty’s care.
Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207
