Audrey Bendick Akins 2022

After an almost three year battle with leukemia, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished wife, mother, aunt, sister and daughter.
Audrey was the beloved wife of Donald Akins; loving mother of Jada and Dallas Akins; caring aunt to Katie, Kassandra (2005), Kayla Henderson, Ayden Couvillion, Mary Akins, Dominic Akins, Crystal Smith, Shaneca Smith, Deangelo Akins; sister to John Bendick and Kathryn Henderson; sister-in-law of Sheree, Kitty and Latonia Akins; dear daughter of the late John and Patricia Bendick.
Audrey enjoyed a memorable junior, amateur and professional golf career and was honoured to represent Canada on the Canadian National Team on numerous occasions. She was thankful for her time as a member of the women’s golf team at the University of Oklahoma and took pride in her induction into the Windsor-Es County Sports Hall of Fame in 2001, and her recent induction in the Ontario Golf Hall of Fame of 2023. Audrey worked as an English secondary school teacher for over 25 years and enjoyed the friendship of many colleagues and connection with many amazing students. The last few years of her senior level golf career brought her many great friendships and memories. She also loved watching her children compete in sports. She could not be more proud of who they’ve become as people. She hopes to be remembered as someone who was tenacious, genuine, and kind.
Audrey and her family would like to thank Kit McCann, Dr. Jarrar, and the nurses, and staff of the Chemo Suite and 4 West at Windsor Regional Hospital. She and her family are incredibly grateful for the exceptional care she received. Audrey had so many amazing friends who were always supportive during this challenging time. We would especially like to thank Dina, Amy, Collette, Angela, Jana, Peggy and the Sandwich Secondary Staff for their unwavering support. Donations in Audrey’s memory can be made out to the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada.
On Friday, December 2, 2022 visitation will be held from 4-7pm.
A celebration of Audrey’s life will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 10:00am at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave., South Windsor.
A livestream link for Audrey’s celebration of life will be available here on Saturday.
