1925-2022
Ashton
“Bud” Reeves, loving husband of the late Shirley
(Brown) Reeves, laid down his working tools and passed away peacefully
in the Valley Regional Hospital surrounded by family. Born in New Ross
96 years ago, he was the son of the late Robert and Daisy (Keddy)
Reeves.
He was a loving father
to daughter, Mary Ann Turner; son, Haldon (Vienna) Reeves. He is
survived by grandchildren, Gerald (Sandra) Rafuse, New Ross; Sandra
Rafuse, BC; Sarah Turner (Joseph MacDonald), River John; Jachin
Turner, New Ross; great-grandchildren, Dexter and Tonia (Devon)
Rafuse, Zoey MacDonald, Brittany and Christopher Sproule, Meagan
Russell, Dustin and Aiden Bingley, Christine and Patrick Fawcett;
devoted sister, Sylvia Webber, Chester Basin; sisters-in-law, Mona,
Veronica and Beatrice Reeves, New Ross; Carol Oakley, Kennetcook and
many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by grandchildren, Charles
Ashton Turner and Brenda Lee Rafuse; sisters Dora, Hattie, and Bertha;
brothers Arthur, Dean, Parker, Blaine, and Cecil.
He was a gentle soul,
loved by all who knew him. Ashton was famous for his hugs. He loved
the girls at blood collection and before COVID they were the highlight
of his week. He loved the outdoors and started doing woods work at the
age of 14. Over the years he had a variety of jobs…working
at Sears in Halifax, carpentry, and finally as a Craftsman at Ross
Farm Museum.
Ashton was a long-time
member of Norwood Lodge, New Ross where he rose in rank becoming a
Master Mason. He had the privilege of installing his son, son-in-law,
and grandson as Worshipful Masters. He served as District Deputy Grand
Master for Lunenburg-Queens; and received his 50-year jewel in 2019.
He was also a member of the Forties Baptist Church where he served as
caretaker (walking a mile to make the fires), trustee and Deacon.
Being a Christian, Ashton loved attending church and always had a
smile and hug for everyone there.
A celebration of his
life and a Masonic Service will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at
2:00 p.m. at the Forties Community Centre, 1787 Forties Road, New
Ross. Following the interment, the family will greet friends and
relatives for a time of refreshments at a reception at the Forties
Community Centre.

please. Donations in Ashton’s memory may be made to the
Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, Forties Baptist Cemetery, or any
charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to
the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services,
Kentville.

    Please accept my sincere condolence on the loss of your Dad. It has been a few years since I saw him but he looked wonderful at that time and Haldon looked so much like him. Treasure the memories. Sorry I cannot make the funeral but you are in my thoughts and prayers.
