Obituary of Arthur Milton Gruenig
It is with open loving hearts that we share with you that our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Arthur Gruenig passed away September 14, 2022, at the age of 92 years. He passed away peacefully at Joseph Creek Village with Paddington Bear by his side. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois; daughters Sherry (Steve) and Sandy (Duane); his son Darrel (Ben); sisters-in-law Alexa, Doris, and Peggy; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Art was predeceased by his son Allen and grandson Andrew Roit.
Art was born on December 4, 1929, to parents Emma and Fred Gruenig in South River, Ontario. He moved west, working for the Bank of Nova Scotia to Grande Prairie, Alberta. One lucky New Years Eve, he met Lois at a party and was smitten. They married on July 29, 1955 and went on to have 4 children.
He was a passionate conservationist and was a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Naturalists. He was instrumental in the restoration of Elizabeth Lake and protecting the Western Painted Turtles, the Western and Mountain Blue Birds in the East Kootenays.
A Celebration of Art’s Life will take place at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 11:00 AM with reception to follow. A livestream of the service will be available on the McPherson Funeral Services website under Art’s obituary page.
Memorial donations may be made to the Rocky Mountain Naturalists, the Alzheimer’s Society, or a charity of one’s choice.
