Obituary of Arthur Baldwin Tuck
At the age of 89, the patriarch of our family, the man whom we loved with all our heart, “said” his last “I love you from the tip of your head to the soles of your feet” with the squeeze of our hands at 10:10 a.m. on August 7, 2022, in his room at the Carmelite House.
His parents, Thomas and Elizabeth (King) Tuck, were blessed with their last child, the youngest of six, on May 9, 1933 – born in Bishop’s Falls. At 12 years old, he moved with his family from Bishop’s Falls to Botwood Highway (now 267 Grenfell Heights) where he lived until 2018, when, because of declining health and mobility issues, the Carmelite House became his home. He was loved and cared for there by an amazing staff, for which we will be forever grateful! At 17, he went to work at the “the mill” and from there provided a comfortable life for his family and was blessed to retire at 56 years old. In his younger years, he was a decent boxer (so we’ve been told) and a good dart player (with many trophies as proof). His love for the outdoors was surpassed only by his love for his family. When he wasn’t at the mill, he was fixing something in the basement or in the garage or playing with whatever kids were around. He was never too busy for his children and their friends. At 50, he made a decision, which made him leaving us on Sunday so much easier to deal with – he asked Jesus to become his Lord and Saviour. As his health declined over the past few years, Heaven became his goal – a goal he has now reached! Knowing he is in Heaven, where he has longed to be, brings great comfort.
Remembering the man whose love for his family knew no limits are: wife of 64 years – Marie (Luff) – children – Arlene, Maurice and Trevor. And his little furry friends, Smokey and Buzz. Also, many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by: parents – Thomas and Elizabeth; brothers – Clyde, Edwin (Mabel) and Jack (Violet); sisters – Dorothy and Edna (Bob White) – parents-in-law – John and Daisy (Watton) Luff.
Because helping children in need was so dear to his heart, donations in his memory are being accepted for: “Dream Big With Us” (Haiti) or “Loads of Love” (Ukraine). (cash, check or etransfer: arlene.elliott@live.ca).
