Arthur Bennett Thursday April 28 2022

BENNETT: ARTHUR GARNET
Peacefully at Huron Residential Hospice, Clinton, on Thursday April 28, 2022. Mr. Arthur Garnet Bennett BSc, P.Ag. of Bayfield in his 99th year. Beloved husband of Jean (Patterson) Bennett for 67 years. Loving father of Marie, John (Megan), and Miriam. Cherished grandfather of Brian (Kaya), and Luke. Dear brother of Jack (Joan), and Molly (Ted). He will be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Garnet & May Bennett, and by siblings Alice, Fred (Betty), Jim, and Dwight (Erma) and nephew James.
Art was one of seven brothers and sisters born on the family farm in Spencerville, Ontario. He trained as a paratrooper during WWII and then attended both Kemptville Agricultural School (’48) and Ontario Agricultural College (’51) before completing a long and distinguished career with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Art then spent 40 plus years in his retirement splitting time between the farm in Huron County and the cottage on High Lake. Art stayed involved in many agricultural ventures and was a Senator of the University of Guelph. He was inducted into the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2013. He was an avid gardener and orchard tender, water-skier, Boom Island Hunt Camp executive and the navigator as he and Jean traversed Ontario and the Northern US on their many road trips.
As per Art’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. A private family interment will be held at Union Cemetery, Spencerville, Ontario at a later date. 1. Our sincere sympathy to you Jean and all your family on the loss of Art.
Regardless of the setting he was always the perfect gentleman.

  2. On Behalf of the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) at the University of Guelph we extend our sympathies to the family of Art Bennett and to his classmates in OAC 51. Art was well know to OAC as a proud OAC 51 alumn and a great example to our alumni family and to current students of how to build an impactful career in agriculture and how to give back. We will miss him and his dedication and enthusiasm for agriculture.
    Rene Van Acker, Dean, OAC

  3. Jean, I am saddened to hear from my brother Ken that Art has died. He was a good man and influenced so many, certainly all of our family, the Knox family, benefited from knowing him. I remember being so impressed with his positive energy at Junior Farmer Camp. There have been phone calls and emails back and forth in our family as we recall incidences that involved Art. We all hold him in very high regard. And you as well Jean, especially Nancy and Michelle speak of you fondly. And I would like also to say hello to Mollie, who taught me phys Ed all through high school. I was pretty hopeless at anything athletic but she never stopped encouraging me anyway. Take care of yourself Jean.
Many fond memories inspired by Art.
