Art Ramsay of Burlington Ontario passed away peaceful on Friday August 5th after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s, at home surrounded by his beautiful wife, the love of his life Jane and his very special children Mike and Jennifer (Hauser). Art was a highly intelligent man with a great disposition, fabulous sense of humour and was always smiling right until the end.
Art was born November 17, 1942 in Nova Scotia to Spurgeon and Evelyn Ramsay (deceased). He grew up close to his family in Prince Edward Island and then moved to Ontario as a boy.
Art graduated from HIT as an Electrical Engineer in 1965. Along with his father-in-law he started Sandtron Automation which they grew into an international company that included Sandtron, Rechner Electronics and HTM. He retired in 2012 to travel the world with his wife and focus on his passion of flying his Navion. Art loved to fly and would spend hours restoring his plane, flying his grandchildren and volunteering his time and plane to fly hundreds of young people from Scouts, Girl Guides, Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Introducing young people to the joys of the open skies was a true passion project for Art. His greatest joy though was flying his grandchildren starting on their first birthday. Art was a member of COPA flight 28 in Burlington including being a member of the board and the editor of their newsletter for eleven years.
Art leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years Jane Ramsay, his children Mike (Isabel) and Jennifer (Steve) Hauser, his adored and well-loved grandchildren Christina (Kurt) Hauser Heaslip, Stephanie Hauser, Max Ramsay and Camryn Ramsay. Art will also be missed by his brothers Wayne (Linda) and Spud (Margaret), his brother-in-law Bill (Susan) Hooper, Coralie (Al) Kirby, Virginia (Steve) Cumming, Catherine (Dan) Thomas, John Hooper (deceased) and Margaret Bury (deceased). He also leaves many, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He leaves behind as well his very special god son Steven Heizler.
We would like to thank all of our friends and family for supporting us over the last ten years. A very special thank you to our incredible PSWs Rhonda, Joseph, DJ and Connie who worked with Art with such love and care as well as the staff at the Burlington Adult Day program Acclaim Health.
A Celebration of Life will be held in September to remember Art with love and laughter, details and date to be announced later. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Acclaim Health Burlington Day Program or the Alzheimer’s Society
