It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of
Arthur Allan MacPherson, of Lower South River, after a long battle
with dementia. He passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April
17th, 2022 at the QEII in Halifax. He was
81.
Born in Antigonish, he was the son of the late Allan and Mary
Margaret (Landry) MacPherson of West Street.
A man who was truly one of a kind, he was born in 1940, the
7th of 11 children. With a police officer for a
father and a homemaker for a mother, Art was taught that helping your
neighbour without expecting anything in return was paramount. He was
very artistic AND loved to draw. Art was good with his hands and loved
gardening, hunting, and fishing. Art worked at St. F. X. University,
starting as a trade carpenter and retiring as a Structural
Superintendent 40 years later.
Art was also very musical. As a young adult, he and his three
brothers were all in the drum corps of the Antigonish Legion Pipe
band. An avid guitar player and singer, Art would volunteer his
talents at the R. K. MacDonald Nursing Home bringing joy to the
residents after his retirement from St. F. X.
University.
Arthur is survived by his first wife Ann Marie (Young);
children Trevor and Jenny; and grandson Michael. He is also
survived by his sisters Agnes, Isabel (the late Donald) Beazley, and
Margie (James) Benoit; brothers, Carroll and Alfred (Ann); as well as
many special nieces and nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and
great-grandnieces and nephews.
Arthur is predeceased by his parents, as well as his sisters
Christina “Tena” (Eugene “Donnie”) Macdonald,
Marie and Mary Kate (in infancy); and his brothers, Harry (Pearl) and
Allister (in infancy).
In Arthur’s extended family, he is predeceased by
his second wife, Marilyn (Griffiths).
He is survived by his stepsons, Norm (Margaret) Darrach and
Michael (Elizabeth) Darrach; and stepdaughter, Susan (Darren)
MacPherson. His grandchildren, Kenny (Marie-Eve) MacPherson, Kyla
MacPherson, Noah and Hannah Darrach, Ashley (Scott) Littleford, and
Norm Darrach, and seven special great-grand children.
Cremation has taken place. In following Art’s
wishes, there will be no visitation. A small, private service will be
held on in the fall of 2022 in C.L. Curry Funeral Home,
Antigonish.
Committal at St. Ninian’s Columbarium on a later
date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the
Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of your
