Arnold Schroeder
June 16, 1927 –
November 10, 2022
It is with sadness that the family of Arnold Schroeder announce his passing on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at the age of ninety-five. They are comforted in the knowledge that he is now in the loving arms of our Lord and Saviour.
Arnold was born on June 16, 1927 in Nadiezdopol, Poland to German parents Ludwig and Christine (nee Hirsch). His mother died at an early age and so he, his 2 brothers, 3 sisters, 2 stepbrothers and 1 stepsister were later raised by his stepmother Pauline. His early years were spent on a subsistence farm. Later, at the age of 17, he was drafted into the army and immediately captured, spending 5 years in a Russian prisoner of war camp.
As most of his family had been killed, after his release he emigrated to Canada to start a new life; getting baptised in Leduc, Alberta in 1951 and eventually meeting his childhood sweetheart in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where they got married in 1952.
Arnold was known as a hard worker who was engaged with the church and strongly supportive of his family. Always with a dry sense of humour, he spent his later years travelling to warmer climates with his wife and extended family.
Arnold will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 70 years, Lydia; children, Harold (Esther), Erhart (Gabriele), Ronald (Kathy, deceased); 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends.
A Service will be held on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 11:00am at the Bay Gardens Funeral Home, 1010 Botanical Dr., Burlington; preceded by a viewing at 10:00am. A reception lunch will be offered at 1:00 pm following the graveside ceremony.
Live streaming will be available starting at 10:45am on this website, as well as a recording of the service beginning November 22, 2022.
