Ardella Marie (Ash) Desmond, 81, of Lincolnville, passed
away, peacefully, on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at home,
surrounded by her loving family. She was the last surviving member
of her immediate family. Born in Mulgrave May 2, 1940, to the
late Charlotte Mary (Jarvis) Jordan and George Henry Ash.
Ardella is survived and will be missed by her loving family.
Children: Sandra (Kenneth Greencorn), Margaret, Linda,
Wilfred, all of Lincolnville; George
(Dawn), Paq’tnkek; Veronica (David), Diamond
(Halifax); Charlotte (Michael), Fraser, Mary
(Patrick), James, David (Donna), Robert, Francis, Marjorie,
Bernard, Alfred, Allan (Terry), Brenda Jones, Austin
(Tracey), Tony, all Ontario; over 100 grandchildren, 130
great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; special
great-grandchildren; Kalista and Khasean. Honorary sisters:
Jenny Douglas and Patsy Clyke. Many nieces and
nephews.
Known as the “Mother of Lincolnville” Ardella, was
an amazing mother, grandmother, great- grandmother,
great-great grandmother, aunt and friend, with deep rooted family
values and ties. She was a well-respected Matriarch. Called
“MOM” by all. She had an open-door policy,
never turning anyone away in need. Feeding the neighbour kids
and even strangers. Ardella was well known for her amazing
ability to bake home bread and biscuits, the best in town. She was
well respected and liked by all. She will be remembered for
her loving and caring demeanor, her love for family, her
infectious smile and laugh, and amazing sense of humour. Ardella
enjoyed scratching lottery tickets and had a love for
Wrestling, The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, and The
Family Feud. Moreover, Steve Harvey.
Ardella was predeceased by her husband: Wilfred Desmond;
Daughter: Brenda Desmond; Sons: Henry and Gordon; Grandson:
Cpl. Lionel Desmond; Great-granddaughters Aaliyah and one in infancy;
Sisters: Margaret Clyke and Cecelia Douglas; brothers: Thomas and
George Ash and Walter Jarvis; Grandparents: Veronica
“Vicki” (Jordan) and George Reddick; Margaret
Ann (Mombourquette) and George Jarvis.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 6 and Monday, March 7,
2022, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port
Hawkesbury. Funeral service will take place Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at
11 am in St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Tracadie. All are
welcome. COVID restrictions apply. Masks are mandatory.
Burial will take place at the St. Monica Catholic Church
in Lincolnville, at-a-later date.
The Desmond Family would like to extend a special thank you
to the Doctors, Nurses and the Home Care Staff and Palliative
Care nursing staff at Guysborough Memorial Hospital and
St. Martha’s, Antigonish for the exceptional care
and support provided to our mother, Ardella. Heart felt thank
you and appreciation to Sandra, Linda, Veronica, Margaret, AND Starr
for their tremendous care provided to our, mom, in the last
days of her life.

My deepest condolences to the Desmond’s family on the loss of a Beautiful woman, better known as MOM to us all. I was her crow and she was my seagull, I am sure going to miss the homemade bread and biscuits, She was a woman who took care of her family and she love each one of them the same, she even took care the children that was always at her home that wasn’t her.
