Reverend Archibald Joseph MacKenzie passed away March 17, 2022 at the age of 93.
Father Archie lived a life dedicated in service to his faith and family – both the family he was born to and the families he became part of in serving the communities where he ministered, including Wainwright, Killam, Wetaskiwin, Gibbons, Mayerthorpe, Thorsby, Evansburg, and the Parishes of Assumption and St. Edmund in Edmonton. After retiring, Father lived at St. Andrew’s Centre and continued his pastoral duties, sharing a gentle teasing manner and his love to laugh and joke with others.
Father Archie was ordained in 1960. Born in Nova Scotia, he was the oldest son of the late John Joe and Mary Elizabeth (MacNeil) MacKenzie. He is predeceased by brothers: Basil, Michael, Raymond and Verne; sisters: Norma, Kay May and Theresa. He is survived by sister, Carmel and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews across Canada.
A Prayer Service will be held Monday, March 21 at 7:00 p.m. and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., both at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12810 – 111 Avenue NW, Edmonton.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the St. Joseph Priests’ Retirement Fund in care of the Archdiocese of Edmonton.

Father Archie was a faithful priest and a good friend who always reminded us of God’s mercy and love. When asked what was the main message that he wanted to convey to others, he responded, “that people understand the importance of having a relationship with Almighty God.” Rest in peace dear Father!
