GUARASCIA, Anthony “Tony”
Passed away peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at the age of 88. Predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Margaret “Jean” Guarascia (nee Duncan). Loving father of Lawrence “Larry” Guarascia (Jackie Rose), Penny Prins (Allan) and Laurie Morin (Peter) and father-in-law of Susan Guarascia. Proud grandfather of Lawrence Guarascia (Mary Cronin), Lindsay Guarascia, Nicole Guarascia (Corey Young), Cassandra Prins and James Morin. Great-grandfather of Oisin Guarascia, Ailis Guarascia, Charley McMenemy, Colton McMenemy and Corbin Young. Tony will also be missed by many extended family members, friends and of course his dog “Ollie”.
Tony was a hard-working man who spent 39 years at the same company, Hendershot Paper who then became CIP Containers back in 1959 when he moved his family to Burlington. He retired at 55, a plan that he fulfilled on his own. He was an avid sportsman playing fastball, hockey and golf. When the playing ended, the true sportsman became a hockey referee and a well loved and passionate fastball umpire. A heart attack when he was 65 stopped the outfield refing and umpiring. He then became a hockey time keeper until his early 80s. The players, leagues and rinks he worked for will miss him greatly.
In keeping with Tony’s wishes, Cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Sunday, March 20, 2022 from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. A Service of Remembrance will be held in the Funeral Home’s Chapel on Monday, March 21, 2022 at 10 a.m. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Tony made to Diabetes Canada or The Kidney Foundation would be sincerely appreciated.
