If you had met our mom and grandma Annie, you would instantly know she was friendly, outgoing and keenly interested in everyone’s life. She was born in Wijhe, The Netherlands where she trained to be a seamstress. She worked in a local café occasionally volunteering as an actress in the local play. In 1961, she met her future love Herman at a local dance, attended by both the Heuver and Poppe’s. They soon married and started their adventure in Canada. They first worked on a tobacco farm near Langton, Ontario, and with the money they saved, bought their own farm near Mitchell. They ran this farm together until Herman’s early passing. Annie was very brave raising a young family and running a farm with the help of her two young sons.
Annie loved gardening, flowers, needlepoint and baking her famous “oliebollen”. In her retirement, she moved into the town of Mitchell with her youngest daughter and could often be seen at the pool, park or toboggan hill with the grandchildren. She loved “nature trail” walks and biking around town. She volunteered with the CWL and Meals on Wheels. Family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were her pride and joy! She was truly the anchor of our family. Her zest for life was amazing, and we will miss her every day.
Friends will be received at the Lockhart Funeral Home, 109 Montreal St., Mitchell on Thursday November 17, 2022 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
