ANNE VOIKIN 2022

Obituary of
ANNE VOIKIN
It is with great sorrow that the family of Anne Voikin (a former resident of Krestova) announce the peaceful passing of their beloved mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother at her home in Castlegar, on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the age of 84 years.
Anne was born September 10, 1937, in Krestova, BC to parents Pete and Nellie (Nastya) Rezansoff. She was proud to be the second eldest child of five children.
In 1955, Anne married the love of her life, William (Bill) Voikin. The couple began their life together in Goose Creek where they were blessed with three healthy children. The family then moved for a brief time to the Lower Mainland, before returning in 1966 to Krestova, where Anne and Bill built a modest home.
In 2009, Anne and Bill, relocated to Castlegar, so as live closer to their daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter. In September 2014, Bill due to declining health passed away. Anne, although devastated by her loss, was determined to be happy and enjoy her remaining years.
Anne was a talented singer of Doukhobor psalms, hymns, and folk songs. She sang for many years with the Krestova psalmists and for a few years with the Friends in Unity Choir. She was an accomplished seamstress, gardener and cook. She worked as a head cook for volunteer cooking groups in the Krestova and Crescent Valley Area. She actively participated in volunteering in Krestova, however due to failing health was unable to continue once she moved to Castlegar, BC.
While community was always important to her, her greatest joy was her extended and immediate family and then in later years being a Baba (grandmother). When she had her health, she was energetic and eager to help family, friends, community, or anyone who asked or were in need.
Anne suffered immense sorrow in her life. In 1976, her beloved son, Johnny at the age 20 years died tragically in a car accident. A loss that deeply affected the entire family.
Anne always tried to live according to the Doukhobor principles of “Toil and Peaceful Life.” She was committed to living a spiritual life and working hard. She believed that it was not only important to speak for peace and love, but also to act, and therefore she participated whenever she could in singing for peace and marching for peace. She also followed the motto, “No job was too big or too small.” She was always kind, respectful, sensitive, honest, and possessed a healthy sense of humor.
Anne will be forever deeply missed and always lovingly remembered by her family and those who knew her.
She was predeceased by her husband Bill Voikin, son Johnny Voikin, brother Peter Rezansoff, parents Peter and Nellie Rezansoff and in-laws George and Mabel Voikin.
Left to mourn her passing: daughter Teresa (Ernie) Verigin, daughter Sharon (Cory) Philp and beloved granddaughter Anastasia Verigin, sister Vera Podmoroff, sister Katie (Harry) Podmorow, brother Walter (Winnie) Rezansoff, sister-in-law Elsie Rezansoff, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral arrangements were in the care of Castlegar Funeral Chapel. Casket was provided by Harry Zeabin of Krestova, BC.
Funeral services were held June 22, 2022, at Krestova Community Hall with Anne’s interment in Krestova Cemetery. A luncheon followed at Krestova Community Hall.
The family of Anne Voikin would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone for your love and support during our time of loss. The staff of Castlegar Funeral Chapel for their kind assistance, to Ernie Verigin and Harry Zeabin for their guidance in leading the funeral service, the psalm singers for their exceptional singing, Andre Nazaroff, and the gravediggers, all those who helped and all those who brought food, called, visited, emailed, and expressed their condolences to the family. Lastly, our family would like to express our deep appreciation to all who helped Anne in the last years of her life including her doctor, Dr. Lisa Vasil. Anne was most grateful to all and loved every visitor who chose to brighten her day either by phoning or visiting in person.
