Obituary
Anne Urbanski
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Anne Urbanski peacefully fell asleep in Christ’s arms at Gimli Betel Home on May 29, 2022, at the age of 96. We are all very grateful for the quality life mom lived. She is now reunited with her husband Victor (May 28, 2013), parents Sam and Polly Krawchuk, sisters Rosie, Katie, and Mary, brothers Mike and Harry.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Shirley (Stan) Firman of Gimli, son Len (Ollie) Urban, of Kelowna, sister-in-law Norma Urbanski, grandchildren Ron (Angie) Firman, Sharon Firman (Bob), Tracy (Ray) Lupyrypa, Tyler (Michelle) Urban and Tim Urban (Jen); great grand-children Curtis (Courtney) Firman, Joel Firman, Hunter Lupyrypa (Ryan), Brooke Lupyrypa, Eric Urban and James Urban.
Mom was born in a farmhouse, the youngest of six children in the Finns area. She left home at an early age for Winnipeg where she worked in a glove factory. She came back to marry a neighbourhood boy after he returned from the army. Mom and Dad were married on August 12, 1945. They spent the first years working at fishing camps where Dad fished and Mom cooked, towing along their 13-month-old daughter. They were blessed with a son 3 years later to complete their family. They spent many years at their farm in the Finns area. Mom devoted her time to her huge garden, canning, and, preserving for the winter along with milking cows, looking after chickens, and helping Dad in the fields. She was a woman of many talents, from cook, to baker, and a whiz with the sewing machine, crochet and knitting needles.
After their retirement, mom and dad took multiple bus trips with friends from Arborg. They moved to their home in Gimli in 2005 and made many new friends there. After Dad’s passing, she lived in her “little house” and was independent until June 2021. She also enjoyed her monthly trips to South Beach with her new friends and Saturday night church with her niece Ollie.
Mom’s life was devoted to her family, and she cherished the visits and get-togethers with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her visits with them at the care home were especially treasured.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 7 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Gimli, Mb with Fr. Stan Gacek officiating. Interment will take place in the Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery, Finns, Mb.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery, c/o Jocylyn Hayka, PO Box 23, Arnes, MB R0C 0C0
Thank you to Red River Place in Selkirk and especially Gimli Betel Home where she spent her final 5 months. The kindness and compassion shown to Mom is greatly appreciated. The kiss on her cheek always brought her a special smile.
Mom – you were my rock and best friend. You taught me unconditional love, respect and how to accept things we cannot change. In your words, “whatever will be will be”. Rest in peace in the arms of the Lord and see the beautiful world through the eyes of an angel. Love you forever Mom, Shirley.
