With heavy hearts and sadness, we announce the passing of Anne Musial; a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was a long time resident of Gardiner Mines, where she lived with the love of her life, and recently departed husband Greg.
Anne was born in the Polish Community in Whitney Pier, the daughter of Alonzo and Josephine Jockemeck; she was one of 6 children.
Her mother passed at a young age, and as the eldest daughter, Anne took over her role. She was forever a mother hen, doting, and caring for her siblings.
She first met Greg when he was visiting his sister in the Annex in Sydney. It was love at first sight for both, and she was smitten with him. On July 2nd, 1951, she and Greg married and started their life of happiness together. In 1956, they welcomed their pride and joy, their son David, into their lives.
Anne always said the early years were a struggle, but she and Greg had a dream to start their own business. They devoted everything they had into building the Bayside Drive-In, in River Ryan.
Greg had always said that it wouldn’t have happened without “ The Boss”, and all of her hard work and dedication. Their perseverance paid off, and the Bayside celebrated its 63rd year as a family run business this summer.
Anne worked as a cook, and co-manager for 50 years. Her work ethic was admirable; she ran a tight ship, and was well respected.
Anne absolutely adored her son David, he was her everything. In her eyes, the sun rose and set for David. Their bond was so special, and he never went a day without visiting or calling her. She dotted on him endlessly, always worrying about that machine he rode ( his Harley). She cherished every moment they spent together.
When her grandsons Marc and then Bradley were born, she felt like she hit the jackpot. Two more beautiful boys to love. She was a constant in their life, babysitting, caring for them, and as busy as she was, always made sure she had time for them. Whether is was loving them, baking their favourite treats, sleepovers, or slipping them a few “cents”- she was always spoiling them. She was always in their corner and had their back. They loved their Nan so much.
Later in life, she welcomed her great grandchildren, Jacek and Layla. She couldn’t believed she was blessed with twin grand babies. They loved their Gamma, and she adored them. Any chance she could get, she spoiled them, and they could do no wrong in her eyes. Her eyes lit up when she saw them, and enjoyed every moment together.
Anne loved spending time with her sisters, they had an unshakable bond. They were her sounding board, her confidantes, her keepers of secrets – and her best friends.
She loved them fiercely.
Anne loved Elizabeth and Nicole like they were her own. She truly appreciated everything they did, the relationship they had, and that they became their caregivers until the end.
You would never find Anne without her camera. She took pictures of everyone and everything. We didn’t realize at the time, but she left us with thousands of beautiful memories.
Anne was an avid baker, and a phenomenal cook. Her perogies, cabbage rolls, cutlets, and baked goods would have family lining up just to get a taste. Her famous fudge was a must have on Halloween. She spoiled us all with delicious treats. Her traditional polish cooking was a staple in our Christmas Eve family gathering tradition. Every birthday – she always made each of us her special chocolate cake with boiled icing.
Anne loved music, and couldn’t wait to go out dancing with Greg to a good polka song or waltz. We always loved watching them twirling around the dance floor, and they were always the first ones up to dance.
She enjoyed her time with her quilting club, and was so proud to make each family member their own beautiful quilt- with hours of love stitched into each one.
Anne was a devoted Catholic, and until recent years, very involved with her local Parish. She had enjoyed singing with the choir, and being part of several committees.
She enjoyed cards night and socials with family and friends such as Mary & Tony, Bill & Sophie, Bertha, Clarence & Anna, Boo &Theresa, and Gordy & Eileen.
Anne and Greg travelled to many places all over the world. Family trips to Ingonish were a yearly tradition, enjoying many laughs, and memorable times.
Anne was one of the kindest people you would ever meet, selfless, generous, loving, and absolutely one of a kind. She didn’t have much of a filter, and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind. She loved fiercely, and you knew you were loved.
Anne is survived by her daughter in law Elizabeth, Grandchildren Bradley, Marc and wife Nicole, great grandchildren Jacek and Layla , her sisters Mary and Sophie , and sister in law’s Bertha and Isabel, along with many special nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Greg, son David, her brothers Stanley and Frank; and her sister Theresa, along with many other cherished loved ones.
The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria Haven Nursing home for caring for Anne during her brief stay. Special thanks to Brenda for loving our pretty girl.
