Anne Kay Bachmier was born in Leader, Saskatchewan on August 17th, 1940 to her parents Joseph and Regina (Folk) Bachmier. She grew up with 12 of 14 surviving siblings on a nearby farm. She loved to ride horses and enjoyed helping the family’s farm by performing her chores.
As a young adult, she moved to Medicine Hat where she started her professional life at the local hospital as a unit clerk. She then met her husband Val (Valentine) Jacob Steinkey and they were married at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in July 1966.
Soon afterwards, they started a new journey by moving to Calgary where they welcomed their first child Jackie (Jacqueline) in July 1967 and Terry (Terrance) joined the family in April 1971. Anne stressed the importance of obtaining an education and raising the bar from generation to generation. That is precisely what her children attained, and they instilled those values onto their own children.
Anne’s professional life included property management which blossomed into owning several businesses. Anne and Val moved to Vancouver in 1989 and she retired in 2004 moving back to Calgary so they could be near family.
Anne was a very proud grandma to Keith and Jack (Jackie and Greg Christofferson), and Madison and Naomi (Terry and Aileen Steinkey). She loved her family and it was exemplified in everything that she did. Grandma made sure to celebrate all special occasions for her family with her fabulous cooking, which everyone enjoyed. She loved being a Grandma.
Anne is survived by husband Val Steinkey, her daughter Jackie Christofferson, her son Terry Steinkey, her grandchildren Madison, Keith, Naomi, and Jack, and her siblings Angie (George), Bert (Ethel), Leo (Irene), Mike (Shirley), and Joe (Lorraine). She is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Regina Bachmier and siblings Margaret (Joe), Catherine (Reginald), Rose (Tony), John (Kay), Phillip (Elda), and Wendell (Jean).
Anne will always be remembered for her kindness, gratitude, hospitality, and her beautiful smile. We will forever cherish the many memories with her made over the years.
A funeral ceremony for Anne Steinkey will be held at a later date.
