We, the family, are saddened to announce the passing of Anne Jean (MacDonald) Richardson on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at her home in South Bar.
Born January 18, 1925, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Phoebe (Tutty) MacDonald.
A veteran of the Second World War, Anne served two years with the Canadian Women’s Army Corp. She was a member of the Army Reserves, an associate member of the IODE and a CGIT leader in Sydney and Kingston, ON. For many years, Anne was director of the Baptist Church Camp in Mira.
Anne is survived by her daughter, Wendy Richardson (Doug), Greenwood, NS; son, Dwight (Kathy), Stirling, ON; grandchildren, Gordon (Brenda), Paul (Sharlene), Kelly (Pat), Tanya (Ray), Teira (Ryan), Hope (Luke) and Samantha; brother, Robert, Sydney; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Howard; sisters, Edith Hawco, Margaret Gould, Beth MacQueen, Bertie Theriault, Mary (at age two) and Margaret (at birth); and brothers, John “Cubbie”, Stephen, Charles, Donald, David and James.
The Richardson family would like to thank the staff of the VON and Palliative Care for their outstanding work in enabling us to care for our mom at home in her last days. In particular, we would like to thank Leah Burns who developed a very special relationship with mom during her final journey.
Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday May 20, 2022, from 9-11 a.m., followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Allan MacLellan officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
