In the early hours of Sunday, December 4th, 2022, at the Westshore Retirement Community, God finally remembered our Mom, Anne Goreski (nee Exner). It was her time. She had often wondered if God had forgotten her as she was the only one left in her Exner clan and she had now passed the 100 mark. To her surprise, in mid-October, we gathered with family, some who travelled from B.C., Alberta and New York, to celebrate her upcoming big day. It was an afternoon filled with joy and happiness with 59 family in attendance. Our Mom celebrated her 101st Birthday on November 17, 2022.
Mom was born November 17th, 1921, in Grayson, Saskatchewan. Her parents, Joseph and Josepha Exner had emigrated from Austria in 1902 and homesteaded in Grayson. Mom was the 6th of 7 children, and she was raised and schooled in Saskatchewan.
In 1939 Mom moved to the Port Perry area with, perhaps, a little twinkle in her eye. It was here she reconnected with Phil Goreski, a former Grayson area resident. Phil and Anne were married in Uxbridge in 1940. Within a year or two Mom and Dad purchased the farm near Port Perry. It was here that their farming life began, and it was here that their 10 children were born and raised – Gerald (Dianne), Ken (Dianne), Wayne (Gail), Larry (Beni), MaryAnne (John), Allan (Cindy), Kelly (Darla), Ron (Dawn), Len
(Patti), and Teresa (Mike). And as her life went on those 10 children grew to 21 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
In the 1960’s Mom and Dad built Goreski’s Summer Resort and eventually sold the farm. She was involved in all the adventures of this new enterprise and was a woman ahead of her times in understanding, tackling and running a new business. In 2003, Dad passed away, the Resort was sold in 2004, and after several years, Mom moved to Westshore Retirement Community where a new era of her life began.
Aside from being a great parent, our Mom was a humble lady, she was very wise, resourceful, enterprising and focused, and she was determined. But, most of all, she practiced and taught us the art of having a good time. Her grandkids got to see that she was smart, witty and as honest as it gets and recognized that even though she had grit, she had a soft heart.
Mom will be sadly missed by her 10 children. 21 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. She lived a full and long life, 101 years. We love you, Mom. Rest in peace.
