It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Anna Mae Maruyama (nee Stewart) at home in St. Albert, Alberta at the age of 82.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 43 years, Jack Maruyama, and is survived by her sons: Craig (Joan), Terry (Carrie), Trent (Risa), & Brett (Maria); four grandchildren: Dayn, Rachel, Trey, & Abbey; sister Rae Trimble of Claresholm and many nephews and nieces and their families. Anna Mae mourned the loss of her brothers Bob Stewart and Gene Stewart who passed before her.
Anna Mae was born in Claresholm to Roy and Mae Stewart. She was raised on the Stewart farm until she left to attend the Galt School of Nursing in Lethbridge, where her mother had previously attended. She graduated in 1959 and moved to Edmonton to work at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. In 1961, she earned a Diploma in Teaching and Supervision in Schools of Nursing from the University of Alberta. In Edmonton, she met her husband Jack and they were married on February 10, 1962, moving to St. Albert in 1965. She was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Alberta in 1972, achieved by attending night school while raising her 4 boys. She acted as bookkeeper for the businesses run by Jack, and in addition returned briefly to nursing at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. She took the opportunity to join AUPE as a bookkeeper, where she worked until her retirement in 2006, the same year that Jack passed. She lived in the Citadel Mews East community in St. Albert, being very grateful for the camaraderie of the residents there, and had the time to pursue her passions of reading and bridge. She was always there for everyone and loved spending time with her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Connelly-McKinley St. Albert Funeral Home, 9 Muir Drive, St. Albert, Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made in Anna Mae’s name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, 100-119 14 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta, T2N 1Z6.
