Anna Horvath passed away peacefully October 20th, 2022 with her eldest daughter Judy by her side after a brave battle with cancer.
Born June 29, 1938 in Padragkut Hungary, she was an adventurous spirit who left Hungary during the 1956 uprising to start her new life in Canada.
Anna (who loved the nickname Anna Banana) was also referred to as Panni by her Hungarian relatives and friends. She was loving and generous towards others and often expressed her affection through gifts of food, whether it was a home cooked meal, a fresh tomato on hand or even the mint in her purse if that was all she had.
Anna was incredibly strong and resilient, never letting visual impairment or other challenges get in her way, remaining fiercely independent for as long as she could. She loved music & line dancing and was always the life of the party; with her signature shimmy & shake and her resounding rendition of “roll out the barrel”.
She will be remembered for her sense of humour and sharp wit, often coming up with a great comment or joke that would make those around her burst out into memorable fits of laughter.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother, who would do anything she could for her family. She always insisted on taking photos at family occasions, because to her family was what mattered most.
Anna is survived by her daughters Judy, Sandra & Linda; grandchildren Shaun, Justin, Jamie, Mia and Dominik as well as her nieces, nephews and extended family in Hungary who were near and dear to her even though they were far away.
She will be deeply missed and will forever live in in our hearts.
A funeral service will be offered Saturday Nov. 5th, 11 am at Our Lady of Hungary Parish at 1810 E 7th Ave, Vancouver B.C.
