Obituary
Our beloved Ann passed away peacefully to join her heavenly Father on September 27, 2022.
Ann was born and raised in the small Ukrainian town of Mundare, Alberta. Her love of the Ukrainian language and culture was always a big part of her life. Ann was the only girl in a family with six brothers, so she was a self-confessed tomboy growing up. Despite those brothers, Ann grew up to be quite a refined lady. After High School, Ann completed a Junior Teaching course at the University of Alberta. She returned to her hometown and taught in the Elementary school for two years. In 1958, Ann moved to Calgary and began a lengthy and successful career with the Calgary Catholic School Board. In the 1970s, Ann proudly returned to University and received her Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Calgary.
Music was always a big part of Ann’s life. As an adult, she took piano lessons. The struggles she had to master the piano helped her to empathize with some of the difficulties the struggling readers in her classroom faced. Ann loved to sing and became a longtime St. Stephen church choir member.
Ann led a full life! In her lifetime, she was a square dancer, a Skyline Hiker, a skier, and a world traveller. She made memorable trips to Ukraine and China.
In 1976, Ann did something very unusual for the time. She purchased her own house. Ann was very proud of her house and welcomed all family members to come and stay with her. She loved gardening, and her perennial flower beds were her pride and joy.
The church and her strong Catholic faith were the guiding lights of her well-lived life. Ann is survived and cherished by her brothers, Joe and his wife Penny, Lawrence and his wife Carole, her nieces and nephews, her many friends, and her parish family. Ann was predeceased by her brothers: William, John, Peter and Harry and her sisters-in-law, Cecilia and Natalie.
The family also wishes to thank the staff at Amica Britannia for the excellent care given to Ann.
Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 10:00am
