Angeline Knorr June 25 1938 February 6 2022 (age 83)

Obituary
Angie Knorr passed away at Chinook Hospice in Calgary on February 6, 2022, at the age of 83 after her fourth and final battle with cancer.
She was born Angeline Grywacheski on a farm seven miles south of Norquay, Saskatchewan on June 25, 1938. As a young child at South Willow Grove School, she was annoyed with her parents for giving her such a long name to learn to print. Perhaps that planted the seeds of tenacity and resilience that were some of her defining characteristics.
When she was in grade three, her family moved to Kamsack, Saskatchewan. There, she attended Victoria School and the Kamsack Collegiate Institute. She worked part-time at the Kamsack Times in 1956 while in grade twelve. The following October, she moved to Calgary where she worked for the Bank of Nova Scotia for eight years.
She met Eugene Knorr at a Safeway social event. They hit it off immediately, prompting her date to pass Eugene her phone number with the comment, “It looks like you’re going to need this more than I will.” He was right. After a four-year courtship, they married on May 18, 1964.
Angie left the workforce in 1965 to devote herself to her new role as a mother when their first son, Brent, was born; the first of four children. She became involved in the community of West Mount Pleasant as well as St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church and St. Joseph school where she shared her kindness, compassion, and generosity.
In 1986, Eugene passed away and Angie re-entered the workforce with the Calgary Catholic School Board first as a teacher’s aide and then school secretary at St. Joseph School where she continued to work until her retirement in 2003.
Angie loved to be busy and was a social person, never missing a family event if she could help it and she took a variety of classes over the years including swimming lessons, painting, and ukulele lessons. She also loved to be active, especially outdoors and joined clubs like The Norseman Ski Club, the Prairie Mountaineer Hikers, and The Calgary Field Naturalists. As she said in one of her notes to herself, “I am a granola crunching tree-hugger”.
She travelled to many different countries with various family members and friends after she retired and enjoyed every one of them. She filled her magnet board and bookcase with mementos.
Angie’s faith was very important to her and she lived her religion, striving to treat everyone as she would like to be treated, with a generous spirit. Gratitude was a habit. She never started a meal without saying grace first and she saw the presence of God everywhere; in the mountain landscapes she loved and in the people, she knew.
She will be sorely missed by the many people she touched in her life.
Angeline is survived by her children, Brent (and Michelle), Wendy (and Kevin), Wayne (and Heather), and Darren (and Shona); two granddaughters, Kirsten Cottenie, and Nicole Douglas (and Kelly); and three sisters, Adeline Wlasichuk, Leona Donnan (and Bob), and Patricia Short (and Phil). She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene, and two sisters, Sylvia Wylie; and Geraldine Grywacheski.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Patrick Davitt for the thoughtful care he provided to Mom over many years. Thank you also to the health care providers at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the caregivers at Chinook Hospice for making Mom comfortable. You are special people.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 11:00am. Livestreaming* will be available below for those unable to attend in person.
