It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved father, Guido and great-Guido, Russell Jerry Andruko of Edmonton, Alberta, who passed away at 85 years of age at Capital Care Grandview Nursing Home on July 6, 2022. Russell was born on May 16, 1937 to Joseph and Pearl Andruchow , and grew up on their family farm near Opal, Alberta.
From humble beginnings, Russell pursued post secondary education (SAIT) and trained as a draftsman for the City of Edmonton. He was very proud to become a fully qualified architect, and enjoyed a lengthy career as Edmonton’s City Architect, and later with his own successful private practice.
One of Russ’s strongest passions was his lifelong love of music. He taught himself to play the guitar and fiddle when he was a boy, and performed locally in his youth. He used his musical talents to entertain family and friends over the years, particularly on holidays and camping trips. In retirement, the “Country Crooner” performed regularly for several hospital and long-term care facilities, bringing joy to others through his love of music.
Russell is lovingly remembered by his three sons Darren (Shirley), Loren and Corey (Liz); his ten grandchildren Hayley, Jocelyn, Rhett, Kierra, Rowan, Tieran, Genea, Claire, Kyle and Leah; his great grandson Sebastian; and his two brothers-in-law Victor (Vivian) and Don (Joanne). He was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years Myrna in 2017, his brother Bill and his brother-in-law Orest.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Grandview, who cared so much for Russell during his 4+ years there.
The family would also like to special thank Russell’s music therapist/companion, whose weekly sessions were one of the highlights of his last few years.
As per Guido’s wishes, there will be no formal memorial service.
Cremation has taken place, and Russ’s ashes will be combined with Myrna’s and scattered together.
