Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Anders Paul Axelson announce his sudden and tragic passing on August 30, 2022, at the age of 31 years. Anders will forever be in the hearts of his wife, Victoria, their son Anders Junior “AJ” and their unborn daughter, Anastasia “Ana”. He is survived by his loving parents, Sandra and Shane Axelson; his sister, Michelle (Ryley) Killam; his niece, Murphie Killam; his grandmother, Pauline Molnar; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Anders follows in the footsteps of his grandfather, Ray Molnar, who was there to receive him on the other side. He was also predeceased by his paternal grandparents Teresa and Arnold Axelson; uncles Eric Axelson, David Palko, Bruce Roy; and aunt Sheila Tutty.
Anders was born on October 27, 1990, in Calgary, Alberta as the youngest of two children. From an early age, Anders had an incredible sense of humour and quick wit that left everyone roaring. Growing up, he enjoyed playing both softball and baseball and became the star pitcher in softball for many years. His family spent many summers camping together, a tradition which Anders continued to enjoy into adulthood and was excited to involve his own family in. Whenever Anders entered a room, his presence was immediately known with his loud booming, and gregarious voice, and his affinity for brightly coloured clothes. Anders loved attending music festivals with his wife, Tori, and being part of a community that embraced him for who he was. He looked forward to expressing his colourful personality in the outfits he wore to those festivals. Anders was intelligent, thoughtful, and astute. He enjoyed bringing people together and he exuded a magnetic personality that drew people towards him. He valued spending time with his many friends and family members, including his cousins, and was proud of his large family. He remained close with his Mom, Dad, and sister throughout his life.
Anders met his wife, Tori, during high school but became reacquainted with her later on when a set of life circumstances brought them together as roommates. They quickly found companionship in each other, and their connection soon evolved into a romance. On April 4, 2020, they were married in their living room in spite of the recently declared pandemic. Anders was an animal lover and together they adored their “fur family” of three cats, before beginning their own family.
In recent years, Anders had developed a respectable career for himself with Prime Projects Ltd, working alongside his father, which he was very proud of. He quickly became well-known and respected in the industry and was preparing to take on greater responsibilities in his role as a Construction Supervisor. His father and the Prime family were so proud to watch him grow and excel in his career, as he displayed a natural ability to learn the diverse trades and handle challenging situations.
Anders’s most proud accomplishment was the birth of his son, AJ, and becoming a father. Anders immediately bonded with his son, and he stepped into fatherhood with ease and admiration. AJ became his little buddy, and he took him everywhere he went. He especially enjoyed taking him on buggy walks with his Mom (Grandma); and, as AJ grew older he enjoyed taking him on bike rides, and to the different parks around his neighborhood. AJ looked forward to Anders coming home from work every day, and they would spend time together playing and enjoying the evening before bedtime. Anders was excited to raise his family alongside his sister’s family and looked forward to getting the two little cousins together and sharing the experience of parenting together. He adored his niece, Murphie, from the moment she was born. Anders loved his family very much and took pride in caring for them and their home. Last summer, Anders took an interest in gardening and growing flowers and was very much looking forward to watching his sunflowers bloom this season.
There are no words to describe how much Anders will be missed by his family, friends, coworkers, and community. He left an impression on everyone he met, and those who knew him were lucky to have him in their lives.
The family of Anders Axelson would like to sincerely thank the many first responders and witnesses who attended the scene of the accident and cared for Anders in his final moments. We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Tosguna and Tsuut’ina members for blessing the site, sending Anders’s spirit home, and for planting a tree in his honour.
A Funeral Service for Anders will be held at the Evan J. Strong Funeral Home North (3625 12 Street NE, Calgary, Alberta) on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 3:00 pm. For those wishing to support Anders’s wife and family, a GoFundMe account has been set up in his name.
