Tributes
Двум смертям не бывать, одной не миновать.
One can’t have two deaths, but you can’t avoid one
Meaning: A man can die but once; fortune favours the bold
Anatoli Jan Chrenowski was a man who was born into this tumultuous world, that uplifts the ideals of celebrity and quietly ignores the actions of sincere heroism. Like all mankind, he was a human of many faults, but amongst them were golden deeds of kindness. Most of these gestures were done in silence, never seeking recognition. He was the man who purposefully turned down heart transplants, ensuring those younger or with families would receive them first. Anatoli did this for a decade. Eventually he did acquire an organ for himself, but not before saving the lives of many others.
Anatoli Chrenowski was born under the banner of the Russian Federation, what is now, Riga, Latvia, on Tuesday, March 11th, 1952. He lived for 25,656 days or 613,322 hours, and he worked hard to make each one of them count, until his very last one.
Son of Lydia Romanova and Jan Chrenowski, Anatoli and his family immigrated to Canada in 1964, to Montreal. It was in this beautiful city where he met his wife, Anna Borowik, and they later married at the Saint Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, officiated by beloved family, Metropolitan Vitaly Ustinov – after only 3 dates to be exact.
Four years after their marriage they welcomed their daughter Darya Dasha Chrenowski, and in 1993 welcomed their son, Nikita Chrenowski.
Anatoli was the beloved Godfather of Dustin Lee Hiles and Victoria Dahdouh, and the self-appointed domestic squire of his family border collie, Sir Pouffaloff the first – to whom he affectionately referred to as Sir Pouffy.
On Mount Royal, he will be laid to rest with his most beloved sister, Elena, who has been affectionately waiting for her brother’s company, since their final goodbye when she was only 18 months old – fully expecting her to greet him with a joyous sigh asking, “What took you so long?….”
