Obituary
Amy Lorraine Mounkes (nee Howie) passed away at home on Sunday, March 27 with her family by her side, at the age of eighty-nine.
Amy will be lovingly remembered by her son Stephen (Darlene) of Bluffton AB, daughters Lorraine Mounkes and Valerie (Scott) Gosling of Calgary AB, and Janine (John) Krottner of Victoria BC; grandchildren Jori (Tanis), Brodie, Loni and Ashlie Mounkes, Josh (Casey) Gosling, Hannah and Teresa Krottner, and her precious great-grandchildren Jace, Kali, and Raelyn Mounkes, Hayden, and Winston Gosling.
Amy will be dearly missed by her siblings, Orial (Bill) Miller of High River AB, Byron (Annette) Howie of Kelowna BC, Rita Bustin of Seschelt BC, Jim Howie of High River AB, and sisters-in-law Leona Dease and Sandra Pye of Calgary AB. Amy’s life was also brightened by her many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Amy is predeceased by William Edwin Mounkes, her husband of 56 years; her parents Wilfred and Amy Howie; her sister Betty Howie, her brothers Bill Howie and Don Howie, her brothers-in-law Bob Lore and Cleo Dease, her sisters-in-law Gertrude Lore and Lillian Howie.
Amy and Edwin raised their family and enjoyed 53 years on their farm west of Okotoks, before retiring in 2005. Amy enjoyed her retirement years. She volunteered at the Okotoks United Church, where she was known as “The Energizer Bunny”. Coordinating monthly book club meetings, preparing school lunches with her friends, and getting together with the Harmony Group were some of her new- found interests.
Amy loved meeting new people but also had many cherished life-long friendships.The greatest joy of Amy’s life was being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family and friends will always treasure her witty sense of humour, her laughter, and her loving spirit.
A Celebration of Amy’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at the Okotoks United Church, with a reception to follow, #43 Riverside Drive, Okotoks AB T1S1A7.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Foothills Country Hospice Society, Box 274, Okotoks, Alberta T1S 1A5 or The School Lunch Program, c/o The Okotoks United Church, Box 507 – 43 Riverside Drive Okotoks Alberta T1S 1A7.
