Alma was born in Cox’s Cove, NL on October 11, 1942. She often shared her fond memories of childhood growing up in her beautiful hometown. After marrying the love of her life, Shirl, in 1961, she moved to McIver’s to start her own family. They built their home on a little lane where her neighbours became her closest friends and confidants. She was a wonderful homemaker and did not shy away from the harder duties of keeping a home in those earlier years, especially digging the potato garden or shearing the sheep. She was always there to lend a hand towards the administration of her husband’s business partnership with their dearest friends, Larry and Laverne Lawrence.
Alma and Shirl enjoyed a lifetime of camping and cabin adventures with their closest friends. She was delighted when the guitar cases would break open; she would be one of the first to make a scuff across the floor. However, nothing gave her more joy than a good game of cards; she was known to drop whatever she was doing whenever there was an opportunity for a game. She had the pleasure of sitting and dealing the cards with her dearest friends, and she held each of their friendships to a golden standard. She loved to have fun and was the life of the party, but always made time to help anyone in need.
Nevertheless, her greatest joy and most dedicated role was being the most caring mother to her five children. Alma’s deepest love was her family; she dedicated her whole life to their happiness. She wanted nothing more than to hear that her children were happy and safe; she delighted in the success of all her grandchildren and adored her great-grandchildren with every beat of her heart. Although she will not have the opportunity to meet her two newest great-grandchildren on this earth, she spoke of them daily and patiently awaited their arrival in May and July.
A special thank you to Dr. Coleman, Dr. Waghmare and their staff for the many years of dedication to our dear mother. Also, her loving care workers; Cindy, Nancy, Tracey, and Patsy. And, the Western Regional Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook, who cared for our mother with the utmost professionalism and respect; you are all earth’s angels.
Visitation will take place at the Epiphany Anglican Church in McIver’s on Friday May 6th, 2022. The funeral service will be held at Epiphany Anglican Church on Saturday May 7th, 2022 at 2 pm with Rev. Terry Loder officiating, with an interment to follow at the Epiphany Anglican Church cemetery in McIver’s. The family is requesting that masks be worn for both services.
As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted or donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit of the Western Long Term Care Home in Alma’s memory.
