Allison “Al” Dysart Kingston
1935-2022
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Allison
“Al” Dysart Kingston on June 13, 2022, at the Dr. Everett
Chalmers Hospital. Born in Scotch Lake, NB, on December 21, 1935, he
was the son of the late Claude and Rachel (Stairs) Kingston, and the
beloved husband of 56 years to Helen (Smith) Kingston.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Helen; son Blair
Kingston (Stacey); grandsons Alexander and Andrew; sister Helen
Steadman (Fred), as well as several special nieces and
nephews.
In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his sisters
Irene Gilmore, Leola Brown and Marguerite Smith.
During his post secondary education, Al spent a year in
England, studying at the University of London. He went on to achieve
his Master’s degree at the University of New Brunswick. He
began his teaching career at Albert Street School, then continued on
at Fredericton High School, where he eventually became the Vice
Principal for many years before his retirement.
Al was very involved in his community and was always giving
to others when he could. He was a member of the Epsilon Ys Men, and
for some time was the president of the local chapter, and a regional
director of the Ys men group for the city and Maritimes. He was also
the president of the YMCA for a period of time. Al was also very
involved with Christ Church (Parish) Church in his younger years, and
later with Christ Church Cathedral. The Fredericton Golden Club was
another group that he was a member of and they met every week to do
community work where needed. He sang with the Golden Club as well.
Square dancing was a passion of Al’s; he was a square dance
caller for 40 years, and danced all across Canada. He would meet up
almost every Thursday night for square dancing. Al enjoyed traveling
and took many trips with Helen over the years.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on
Monday, June 20, 2022, from 4 – 7 pm. A memorial service
will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at
2 pm with The Very Rev. Geoffrey Hall officiating. In lieu of flowers,
donations in Al’s memory may be made to the Heart &
Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s
choice.
